Sandmans - Muscled Cars or Something Else.

    G'day All,
Here's a question for all Sandman Owners. Do you consider them Muscle Cars or something else? I personally think there not. I tend to think of them as Image Cars. I know this will have many opinions but hey I'm only here to have fun!

    Cheers,
    Glenn.

P.S. On another note - Absinth & myself went to a hamburger joint here in Brisy last night called Munchies. In a pretty run down area of Brisy. Didn't think it was much chop as I've heard Harrys Diner is alot better. Well wasn't I pleasently suprised, about 250 cars turned up with many in exc cond. So if you live up this way let us know so there more us there, with a Sandy or not - doesn't matter.

    Gday,

It depends on what donk's fitted in there. For example, a mini-moke with a big block fitted would have some muscle.

    Cheers

No, not muscle. Image and lifestyle. Maybe even evil.

I reckon the vans had an evil aura about them:twisted:. I remember getting overtaken by one coming home from holidays with Mum and Dad when I was about 8. The way the olds went off at "that blasted idiot in that panelvan" made it seem like it anyway. I thought it was cool.

I don't think GMH intended the 'Sandman' to be a muscle car. If you walked into a showroom in the 1970's and asked to look at a muscle car made by Holden, the dealer would have probaly shown you a SLR5000 or a Monaro. That's not to say though given it's specs and overall look that you can't class it as one. I think it comes down to personal opinion. I personaly do class the 'Sandman' as a muscle car. Sure muscle is all about high performance big engines, but a Sandman with a 253ci V8 pushing 130 (LC) -138 (HC) kW; who can argue... The sandman is tough on the inside and out! Definately an evil aura as wbute states! ;D

    extract from http://www.streetrods.us/hrfs/muscle_car.htm

Australia developed its own muscle car tradition around the same period, though many were modified four-door sedans or low riding, rear drive pickups, known down under as "Utes" (short for utility vehicle), rather than two-door coupes. The most famous were the Holden Monaro with a 307-350 Chev or 308 Holden, the Ford Falcon GTHO Phase III of 1971 with a 351 Cleveland, the Valiant Charger with 265 (I6) or 318 (V8) Hemi, and the three highest performance Holden Toranas , the A9X, SLR5000 and the XU-1. The XU-1 was fitted with a 202 (3.3 Litre) Triple carburetor, I6 engine, as opposed to the 308 (5.0 Litre) single quad barrel carby V8 in the A9X and SLR5000.

Well.. that wraps it up, the internet never lies... Onya utes owners, you've got a muscle car! Van owners you dont

To me a muscle car is something that was built to race. I reckon they would be Bathurst Monaros, L34 Toranas, maybe A9X(but they came standard with L31 motor), E49 and E38 Charger, Phase 1 2 and 3 Falcons, Bathurst XU1's. Probably a few others too, but this is just my opinion and may be wrong.
