Ok I have found in my opinion a fantastic replacement for the original struts.

I was not completely happy with the VS boot struts (as stated earlier) as they were far too powerful at 510N and did not lift the tailgate anywhere near the correct height, but they did the job for the short term.

I have found the following struts which are perfect for my particular application from Strut Regas in Wagga Wagga.

    Strut Length 405mm
    Strut Diameter 8mm
    Strut extender 10mm
    Pressured up to 300N

I have removed the brackets from a pair of original struts by drilling out the rivets. I have used the original brackets to mount them. No drilling extra holes is necessary at all.

Total cost $92 all up, much better than digging around the local wreckers to find a set.

Please PM me for Bruce's details - he is happy to put sets together for us and post direct to your door.

    Cheers,

    Peter

Maybe Bruce and will give forum members an even better price if enough people go for it!

I told him about this forum , he was very pleased.

He is awesome to deal with , I had no doubt that this outcome was achievable.

I'm sure he will look after us if we let him know we are from this forum.

If you are outside of Bruce's licensed area he is happy to put you in touch with your local Strut Regas distributor and let them know the correct sizes.

    cheers,

    Peter

    Hi Guys,

    To avoid confusion.

The company "Strut Re-Gas" should have a local distributor in your area. It has 100's of small operators - mostly small mechanics workshops.
So I guess Bruce does not want to take business away from your local bloke. I can understand that totally.

But, If for some reason you do not have a distributor of "Strut Re-Gas products" in your area then Bruce is happy to post some down to you.
At the end of the day he is happy to help out. Best thing is to contact Bruce and he will put you in touch with your local supplier if you have one.

Here are some locations of Strut Regas distributors taken from the website.

I hope this clears up some of the confusion.

That said, I am happy with the product. The struts even stay up on bumpy roads. Which is most of the roads in Wagga

    Cheers,

    Peter

    Hi SkiMan,

If you , or somebody, could please provide the height of an original tailgate when lifted you can compare it to my measurements.

    Cheers,

    Peter
