After an eventfull last few weeks (had a few of life's bigger issues to deal with in the fam) I have been able to head back out into the shed today and start doing a bit in there on the ute. Have been following the other threads about fitting genuine GMH/Bosch type dizzys into red motors and have found an old genuine dizzy that was once fitted to (thought to be but in reality unknown) a VH/VK blue or black motor for the right price.
It will be getting a going-over (clean-up, new gear and bush fitted, shimmed etc) over the next little while and while inspecting it have noted that the vac advance unit (of which I have no idea if it off an auto or a manual and have no way of knowing at the moment) is kinda cactus anyway (wont hold vacuumm), so I need anothery to replace it. Any suggestions as to the part number I'll need for another vac advance unit to suit my engine/box combo (original red 308 and TH400) and if I should be looking at the bobweight springs as well? I have absolutely no idea if this dizzy was originally in a manual or auto and am not sure of the advance curve these dizzys have... I haven't looked at if these bits might interchange from my old points unit or if I'll need to dig-up some new ones. Anyone know?
Failing any of that, any ideas as to who you folks would trust around Newcastle/Hunter to just rebuild it and graph it properly? I used to work in the industry (mechanic in NW Sydney) but have been out of it since '94 so don't really know anyone anymore.
Any advice gratefully recieved.
Dave.
