    My HX P/V

Good evening all i am a newbie here my name is Carlo, i have been a mad vanner for many years and had a number of panel vans in my younger years. As with time and a family things change and some times cars have to go, but i have never lost my love of panel vans. In fact recently i became the proud owner of a HX panel van. i have included some pics of the compliance plates and curious to know if i may of stumbled over a sandman. Either way if it is or isn't doesn't really matter as i am just happy to have a van back in the stables. your help is muchly appreciated.
    Regards Carlo

A check for full headlining attachment points and interior light door switches should just about confirm it. I'm about 99% sure it is.

BUT, (I don't mean to be at all derogatory) it is probably the worst Sandman of the lot, being a 6cyl HX in Durham beige. Basically a baseline Sandman in baby p00 colour. The best thing for it is to make it what you want, don't get hung up too much on originality as it will be easy to over-capitalise on it trying to make it too original. It looks like it has already been painted in a more palatable colour (me saying that about what appears to be Hothouse just tells you how awful Durham beige is (I detest Hothouse Green! Others love it)). I'd just clean it up, whack in a V8 and enjoy!

Firstly i would like to say thank you for welcoming me to the site. To answer your question HK1837 yes at some point it had a full headlining as the attachment points are still there, and it also has the interior door light switches. It is my intention to pop in a V8 just not sure if i will go Chev or Holden. Color wise i am not sure what i will do yet, as i dont like the color it is at the moment. Any way it is a blank canvass ready for some brush strokes. Regards Carlo

Good on you. It'll always be worth more than another van done the same but that was originally a column shift 6cyl base model as it is, after all, a Sandman. I'd just go simple on it. Buy a complete rusty or unfinished project and use the V8, diff, gearbox etc in it. Something like this and sell off the bits not needed:

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/WB-1-tonn...item3cc18f8821

Or maybe do something different and buy this. Has a VK EFI 202 conversion ready to go (keeps the van more original as a 6cyl):

Or buy one of these and wreck them out, using the running gear:

thank you for the info HK1837. i think i will definitely run with an V8 and i would like to make it a sandman as well with all the decals. i will try and do the majority of the work myself, as its not the first van i have rebuilt albeit many many moons ago. Carlo
