the skinny plate says 8M70T there could be a P here or R? L344389J

The plate on the passenger side says Holden HJ pannel Van seating cap 2, 05/78 BHJ 57578A GVW 1950 kg,

And the drivers side plate says Model:HJ8WM70 body no:191361-A TRIM: 2212-19V Paint: 568-15991 Eng:L31 trans:M41 rraxle:GU7

I found this van in a back yard going rusty is it the real deal and whats it worth. the motor and earbox is not origional. can anyone help me thanks.

78 it sound like the tags are on the wrong side and you say that the passengers side is dated 05/78 if it's a hj it must be 5/76 kg are right for v8 sandman did you get tyre placard ,what about full length head lining , courtesy lights m41 is turbo 400 which I think is ok for hj but maybe reasonable rare . I think your p or r would be F for 1976 .so I think you should do some more investigation and measure the width side rail for the the hood linning this may also help you

yes you are right sorry it is a F and it is dated 05/76 so the trim code is on the passenger side and the other two are on the drivers side

yes it does have a full length hood lining with the hooks at the back. not sure about the tyre placard

yeah looks good for sandman ID, . i dunno where the paint charts on here have gone, but i think thats tuxedo black from memory... factory 308 Turbo 400 makes it a rare beast

Is most likely a Sandman. But Geez, if it is, a black/black L31 M41 GU7 HJ Sandman. It doesn't get much better than that. It most likely has air and steer with LSD as well. Being late HJ it'll unfortunately have a black fascia, but it'd have been an awesome sight when new. It is the sort of thing that would sway me to a van away from a ute!

Tyre placard won't help with a HJ.
