If you want to go to the trouble of finding a 308 block with a cast date of two to three months before the build date of your car no one will ever know it is not the original engine to the car. From what I've seen a non original engine doesn't seem to de-value Sandmans by too much as long as it is a red motor and not out of a Statesman.

No one will ever know... Sounds very deceptive

i will look and see what number is on our 308 for you if you like....it runs well, but has some oil leaks, which can be fixed while out of the van tho....Rodney has just gone out and read what he thinks is the time of manufactur number: 21K6 and the clocky thing is at 8oclock from looking from the front into the engine. the engine number is 11QT808031. rodney thinks this engine maybe from a statesman because there are other things from a statesman in the vehicle eg. door linings arm rests, prob even the diff..as it is a 279 radio.....

21st October 1976. Would have been in a January-February 77 or there abouts HX Statesman.

Absinth, (rodney saying this) these are definitely the engine numbers should the engine numbers be in a straight line, these numbers are a little bit up and down, like they could have been stamped with individual stamps....anyway these numbers are on the motor. It isn't that important that we sell it this only if this motor suits someone within the next six months it may be an option for them

The engine numbers were hand stamped so not always neat or in a straight line. QT is 308 out of Holden, Kingswood and Premier ..... IIQT is 308 Statesman.

thanks then for that the motor is going anyways as we have a rebuilt 253 for new fuel....for the yellow van...and as it is a HX motor will not be suitable for the HZ which Kaido17 bought...

There is nothing deceptive in finding an engine in the correct date range for your car. It is impossible to know the engine in your car or any other car is the original engine to that car unless you have the original rego papers or the vehicle identification certificate stapled in the back of the owners guide. Otherwise you are only guessing the engine is original if it is in the correct date range.

An original engine in a car adds no more value to it than a correctly dated engine without documented proof it is the original engine to the car.

"stapled in the back of the owners guide"

mine for my hz sandman ute is stapled to the inside front page of the owners guide. Not being picky but thought it was interesting. I guess there was no rules where it got stapled haha..
