I dont think it was the HX's looks but the reports of the journalists at the time commenting that the thing hardly idled. The poor attempt at tuning the engines for the ADR requirements made them lack the power of the predecessor. The HJ 308 was the most powerful with its reported increased compression and bhp over the HQ but fell away sharply in the HX guise. That doesnt help the sales when you read a car runs badly and uses more fuel.
