I was thinking the same thing myself. I'm almost certain that L/H mirrors were not required back then by law but sometime shortly after they were. I have no reason to doubt that the holes in the R/H door are not original unless it had a new door skin fitted at some stage and the holes were simply drilled on the wrong spot.

I'm pretty certain that the left hand mirror came standard on the Sandman in 76. I can recall Dad making the point that he had to order the passenger side one for a Torana he bought a year prior.
