Saying that the replica example isn't worth 33k just because its a replica is a bit of a stretch. The asking price isn't anything to do with it looking like a rare car. It's because the car is a nicely restored turn key street car full of good gear and options. (Only an inspection would confirm if it was really that good though.) For all you know he's spent 20k on panel and paint, the engine has 10k worth of gear in it, a 5k gearbox. If everything's done right then there's a chance that it is worth 33k. Try building one for less, especially if you don't have the skills to do much of the work yourself.

Nice plates on that replica though. 1CBM 000. InterContinental Ballistic Missile.

You would be struggling to get $30k plus for a genuine sandman let alone a replica doesnt matter how much he has spent on it and yes you could not build it for that but most people i know would not shell out that sort of coin for that car
check out what most car prices are selling for a lot lower than say 2 to 3 years ago sign of the times keep dreamin buddy

i think that sandmans are still relatively cheap.
remember these are basically GTS spec utes and vans...and their values in my opinion are still less than that of an equivalent HQ-HZ GTS 4 door.

a GTS ute / Van has to be worth more than a 4 door monaro?, right? thats my 2 cents

i also think the $$$$ gap between windowed and windowless is widening....

I would imagine that the amount of Sandmans being discovered has probably decreased their value. They clearly made a heck of a lot of Sandmans. It is the supply vs demand that determines their value.
Sandman utes may well end up being worth more than vans as people start to appreciate how much more rare they are to find. Might take 10 years for this to become reality though. Thats about when the ute driving generation will be at the time in life to start restoring cars.

so true James, I am sure that the reason Sandmans have come into their own is because people like us ( R and I generation) are at a stage in life, where our kids have stopped being dependant and our houses are mostly paid for, so we can now afford to restore these icons as a hobbie.......

a 350 monaro is not equivalent of a ute / van.
    what i meant was a 253 , 4 speed HQ 4 door monaro V 253 4 speed HQ sandman ute or van

So true ... if it's the right series van/ute car whatever in the right colour with the right options, goodies, wheels etc that someone is chasing then they will pay what it is worth to them.

I have a mate who has limited mechanical ability nor has time, space or know how to do a restoration. He recently bought a Sandman van for upward of $25K. For HIM it was everything he wanted, right colour, L31 M21, it looks and sounds good and he just puts the key in, drives it, and he's as happy as a pig in Sh!t. Someone else (like me) may have struggled to part with 20K for it because it wasn't their "cup of tea".
