The red HX ute used in the HX brochure has turned up (a long time ago). And it looks like I have details of the first HQ XX7 have now been solved (the ute anyway, i'm not yet convinced the van is a Sandman). I just have to find some of the HJ and HZ brochure vehicles.

@buickzz, by the flat console do you mean the lack of floppy seat belt holders? I'm not sure why it wouldn't have it as the Ewe't has the right console and it was 3/72 production. If that ute in the photo is the one I have details of it was 12/72 from the same assembly plant. BTW, what does a HQ Sandman console have at the back where the ashtray goes on sedan/wagon/statesman/coupe? I picked up a really nice floppy seatbelt HQ T-bar console on the weekend which was from a Premier/LS/Statesman and it has an ashtray at the rear. The woodgrain has come off the storage lid and the chrome scale is underneath, T-bar is still woodgrain.

Byron, the HQ console in a commercial had a blanking plate at the rear. You see these on the short consoles coming up on ebay sometimes. Basically its a square plate with rounded corners. I havnt got one yet but due to the fact I havnt seen a seat seperator that is trashy enough so I dont pay a lot for the console. The console needed the ashtray hole to screw it to the rear bracket unlike the HJ/Z one where the screws are in the armrest hole.

Have you seen a survivor HQ Sandman with the floppy seatbelt console? I think they might of just used everything from the GTS/4 bin... haha Anyway any young bloke in the 70's left the seatbelts clipped up there whole life. Who cared about finding the floppy end..haha

It might be significant in that most of the adverstising pictures of the HQ Sandman are handdrawn. They might of preceeded the production and as it was a model runout sort of thing and the marketing area just mocked them up.

Ill put up a picture later of the rear plate on a console. :-)
I vaguely remember a HQ console with the hole and seat belt holders behind when I was young but Im probably mistaken. It might of been a short one without the lid but. :-S
