No, Sandman is no different to any other commercial prior to 10/75. They are just a dress up package and got the same tyres as the base vehicle. Sandman was always like this prior to 1978, even once the second Sandman package was introduced in 10/75 the new vehicle got the same tyre placard as XU4 for the same engine. The normal Sandman (XU3) continued with the same tyre placard as the base vehicle. Only 1/78 onwards HZ XX7 had unique placards.

I think so (refer to the text at the very top of the web page). It is almost true as XU4 HJ's are virtually non-existant (I don't think I have ever recorded one) so most cars with the reduced GVW should be Sandmans, so common sense says the late HJ XX7 shared the same placards as XU4 (there should be 3 x reduced GVW HJ tyre placards). Early HJ XX7 are no different to later XU3 or any other commercial with teh same engine and hence should all use the same placard (which appears to be the HQ one).

The sandmans were different in the wheel size, the GTS wheels being 6" and the standard ute and van coming with 5". That might explain the different placards even if they were the same tyres.

6" and N66 were optional on utes and vans including XU4 hence the same placards. I just haven't found a HJ XU4 to prove it
