What about:

E - leave it as it isn't a ute  ; or
F - leave it for someone else to waste money on

Seriously, it is not much more than a replica in the end. You'd be better off buying a really rusty one with tags matching the chassis and find another body for it. As a future buyer i'd much rather this than one without its original chassis. This is just me though.

Options E & F are now part the thread

Even though the tags have XX7, its probably fair to assume its only 50% a genuine van.....but seeing as there are hardly any to be found, would it be better to at least put another on the road, instead of having it gone altogether? A little HQ Sandman has got to be better than no HQ Sandman. I understand the purist mentality...I really do, I love seeing and appreciating a stock unmolested example.....but if everyone was a diehard purist, there would hardly be any Sandmans around. And that cant be a good thing.

Well Sandaro....im all ears if you find another HQ Sandy for sale

HAHA, yeah I would not like my chances of finding another one, so I would keep it in storage and eventually do it up, by then not matching chassis ones will be sort after as long as the Sandman pedigree is there.

Hmm, I must have replied to early as there were no options there when I first read it.

I'd go G- Whack in a Chev and LPG, put a nice set of wheels on it and some roller drawers in the back and use it as a work van. (I'm actually tempted to register my HZ and use it for work. Can't afford a proper resto so may as well use it till I can.)

Well said Alien DNA, number's and purist's have there place. Otherwise we would have no production example's of anything. Way back when I was in my twenties, and we were buying these vehicles new, no one was concerned about motor's, gearboxes or diff's, believe me on this. Motors were being heavily modified or turfed, and the same with the rest of the driveline. Then the next bit was the interior and body work, ute's were, to a lesser extent, the same. Many HQ's were ordered with a V8 and 4 speed, well before Sandman came along. So to find any Sandman is an historic moment, I would not be deterred by it not being matching number's in any way. To find one with anything matching is comparable to winning the lottery.

Cheers.

Grab the sandman at the reasonable price and follow it history and start looking for the original chassis or at least a hq chassis therefore it would be registered as a hq

Date code motor would turn up
