    Cool.. That make it abit more clearer.. Do you have any idea what the plug coming from the fuse box (that used to go to the orignal instrument harness)??

    Also, do you have a wiring diagram for a HZ GTS instrument panel?? I just want to get an idea where all the wires go.. Just for peace of mind to make sure I have everything done right..

    Well.. I got the car started today after charging the battery up last night.. I started it and had a look at the dash to see what was working and what wasn't, and what do you know?? The only one working is the battery guage..

    So the Temp, Fuel and Oil Pressure guages and the tacho doesn't work either.. lol

    I did observe a few things and I thought I would write them here to see if anyone know what I am doing wrong or whats stuffing up..

    1... The oil pressure guage is right off the top end of the scale when the car is turned off.. So when I turned the key to turn the car on the needle slightly moved back towards where it should be and then it slowly went back off the scale to the stopper and then stays there..

    2... When the headlights are pulled on the left blinker light in the tacho comes on and stays on.. Also the high beam indicator flick on and turns off.. and when you ease the headight switch back in the high beam light comes on at a certain point and only that point..

    3... When the left indicator is put on the light in the tacho flashes like it should, but the tacho needle moves up and down with the 'off, on, off, on' of th indicator.. lol

    So if anyone knows please help.. I am a bit confused as to why only one guage is working..

    Sounds like an earth problem. Did you make sure the earth lead on the temp/oil/fuel/volt gauges was where its meant to be? It should just be a plug and play conversion. But what you are describing sounds like an earth issue.
    Have you changed the oil pressure sender from an idiot light one to a gauge one?

    Yeah, when other stuff started coming on when other stuff was turned on I thought straight away that it was an earth problem...

    I did put that strap to the bottom left hand corner of the oil/temp/fuel/battery guage.. Is it meant to be between the guage housing and the cast metal frame, or between the metal frame and the dash (metal connected to the a-pillars..)??

    No, havent changed the sender yet.. But one is coming, that is probably why the oil pressure reading off the scale.. lol

    I'll have a look at it this arvo and have a fiddle and see if I can work it out..

    As long as its contacting the alloy dash frame it should be earthed. Sender is causing the gauge to go crazy. Fuel gauge should work if the old gauge worked? Same goes for temp.

    are the temp senders the same for a light and a gauge ?

    Righto, I thought that about the earth... Yeah, I just hit me about the oil pressure sender.. Didn't even think about it before.. Umm, the temp guage worked but I have no idea if the fuel one works.. I have never had the tank full either.. may have to get a heap and fill her right up and see.. If it doesn't work after that, does it mean the fuel tank sender is stuffed???

    I have no idea why the temp guage doesn't work.. I think if I can't get it to work, I'll bring in the auto electrician friends..

    Ohh, and how much does an oil pressure sender to suit a guage cost?? I got quoted $60 from repco up here and thought that it was a bit steep..

    No, though in many cases the sensors will look the same or very very similar. The light is "switched" on by the temp switch earthing out and the guage is "sent" towards the high end of the scale by its sender allowing voltage to earth at a progressive rate as the temperature increases (by a change in resistance in relation to temperature of the sender unit).

    Ohh, and repco didn't have a oil pressure sensor, so I have ordered one and its on its way..
    You should have an earth on your column near the ignition switch (I think it might also join the harness earth coming from the combination switch out of the column) and another in the black harness coming out of the quad guages that as has been pointed-out should attach to the alloy frame. Dependant on what harness you're using/adapting you may have another one near the clock (not sure of the colour of the wire). Make sure you've got the main harness plug together properly..... Guilty of that one myself a few times in past years.

    Thanks for the info on how the switche work.. I would never had any idea on how they worked.. lol haha

    Now that you said that about the earths, I went and had a look at the pictures of the wiring harness that I took a while ago, I can see the two earths that you are describing.. One is in the part that goes to the clock and the other is on the next part of the harness that is separated.. lol

    Its something as simple as that that brings alot of people unstuck.. lol Well, they say first hand experience is the best type of experience.. haha well I can tell you those will be the first things that I hook up tomorrow..

    sounds about right but you need the correct one, im sure i read on here about an oil pressure gauge doesnt work because they dont have the correct sender
