HZ & HX Sandman and Engines date codes

I have already enquired with Holden and yes the HZ is in the range of dates they have lost the information on.

In regard to the HX did you mean a QT pre fix as I have 4 trimatic 308 blocks ranging from standard bore to 030. I also have a 308H prefix 1970 which I assume is too early. The QT's I have are 71,73,74 & 75 I think 1 ia an 11QT though not sure which one.

Also with the Chamois Covert trim what does this mean as it currently has Chamois seats, Console & door trims with an all black dash and carpet and neutral headlining

As above NT is the GMP&A replacement engine, could have been bought at any stage and put in hence any date code will do.

The trim you describe is 60A which is called Chamois/Black which is correct for later HJ which carried on into HX. I just stuffed up calling it Chamois/Covert which is the HJ and HZ version (code 60V). Instead of black it has covert like my HJ Premier

Yes, and an awesome combo it is 2214-60A. Would look magnificent when new, and it is a 308 exmple to boot! Although I don't know how they got around a van with black gloss paint on it, in dark blue the body imperfections stand out like the proverbial, in black they'd be worse.

Hi namdnas, I heard of a fellow who went to the police to find out if the motor in his L34 Torana was original as the number had been ground off in a rebuild and then restamped ( but incorrect lettering size ). All done by a previous owner of the car.
Anyway, the police used some chemicals and managed to show the original number stamped in the block was the same as the number stamped. Something about compressions in the cast blocked from being stamped showed up darker than the rest of the block. Hope this makes sense. Go to the GMH Torana forum and you may find the article there somewhere.
I would imagine you would have to know a policeman fairly well for this kind of help!

Yes thats why I started with the HZ I have already completed a HX van done as a HZ replica with Windows. When I chose Valencia I obviously didnt know I'd get hold of an original windowless HZ in the same color otherwise I would have chosen something different. My son drives the replica Hopefully I'll finish the HZ sometime soon. Damn full time work. By the way the Chassis number for the Tuxedo HX is AHX06653A Chassis matches the tag
