Look I don't move in the show circles, so maybe I'm naïve in regards to the respect you talk of, but if I chose to name my van whatever the heck I came up with I'd stick with that, its hardly a one off word. maybe Rod's suggestion of contacting the other van owner out of courtesy is the way to go.
Other than the respect issue, there's a matter of confusion. Back in the original van days there would often be vans that had the same name. Then you would get people talking about a van and have to clarify "No, not the yellow HJ, the blue XB" or something similar.
Many famous vans had people copying the name, and that only annoyed the original owner and their fans. My HK van in 1978 was named "Heartbreaker" until I found out about another van with the same name. I don't know who was first, but I wanted my own identity and changed the name (and the theme) to "Time Machine" which is what it was widely known as.
I'm pretty sure if anyone called their van "Alley Cat", or "Misty Blues", half the van community would be quick to advise them that was inappropriate, so famous or not the original should be respected.
I love Rod and Jennies new van (and their others) and think it should have a name with a clear heritage. Casino theme - "Wild West".
Vans.... This is the 2nd time round the block, 40 years later! talk about turning back the clock!
This is an interesting subject of conversation to tune in to, I'm not in the show loop by any means, but I can see the thinking each way. Was just musing, in the end, as Kenny Rogers had it; the Gambler got even, cause he knew when to hold em, and when to run.
Cant quite fit "Dealings Done" on a number plate, though. Strikes me "Hold em" is pretty close to 'Holden', or "Walk away" is a potential finger print deterent..? "Run" is pretty good... but I spose that also stretches to Radiohead (which is cool anyway). .... what about Born 2 Run? (Or has that already been done?) Probably has been anyway just musing.
Fantastic looking car, just superb!

Just call the van anything you want
so what there is 2 or 100 vans called the same thing?
if you paint it red does that mean your a copy cat?
come on we aren't at school are we?

Aces up
It all sounds a bit "clicky" in the modified van world. Guess that's partly why it died. There only so many "original" ways to do a van.
Perhaps it might be a good idea to accept that the way it used to be is in the past. The way it is now is to appreciate what is left of the old scene and welcome the few new comers into the stable. I didn't see too many 18 year olds with vans at the Van Nats in Bathurst. Any new blood is vital to its survival beyond about ten years. Openly cutting down someone over a name choice is not the way forward. Perhaps a bit of diplomacy might have been better? PM for example.
It's even worse that there was no respect shown to possibly the biggest contributors of restored Sandmans and some of longest members to this site.
Think before you hit post on a reply. I know I am one of the biggest offenders of replying with emotionally fueled replies. But just stop and think if there is a better way.
Full House??

I couldn't think of anyone on this site that would command more respect than Rod and Jennie. ( and I've never met them).

Disclaimer: I am not an expert.
Never did I get disrespectful or state they couldn't name the their Van "The Gambler". Anyone who feels I did can take it up with me personally.
I didn't and don't think it the right thing to do as another already has the name and it is a Holden Panel Van and a member of the same Van club as Rod & Jenny.
This is being respectful to John the owner of the "Orange" Van with the number plate GAMBLR who has had that name in use for a long time.
Im sure Rod & Jen will come up with something new settle down people![]()
