I dropped in at Vince Strang's this morning in Inverell and had a talk to Vince. By his advice the DR650SE is the go for me. All I need to do is replace the rear spring and fork springs ($450), lower the pegs (less than $100), Renthal bars ($200 I think), hand guards (stuff all), engine and frame protectors (about $200 or so fitted) and a rear rack with bag to put stuff in to carry to work. He said later on once i've got through all the learner phase and got used to it then a staintune pipe and matching jets will make it nicer, and also once the tyres wear out there are others available as good on road but better off road. Once the chain gets some wear then maybe replace it with a 530 chain and lower gearing if I want to have a bit more fun offroad. It is amazing how nuch these things look like an old 1980's XR6xxR when you have a good look at them. We used to convert these old girls into trikes in the 80's, one of these would make a good one too.
