That's fair enough. Seen the same with motorbikes that people have lost their lives on. The family doesn't want anything to do with it and doesn't want to get a phone call 5 years down the track from someone asking for a receipt so they can register it.
I've personally reduced a perfectly rideable R1 to a pile of molten alloy at the request of someone's mother.
