So welcome to the world of cheap ass Chinese imported repro parts people!

Do you have any indication on the repro/spare pars that RS have license for? What I mean is who far back and how recent a model will they be supplying FX to VZ?
This will give you an idea of what it is about. There is a catalogue of what is "approved" already.

    http://www.holdenrestorationparts.co...rts/index.html

The shitty end of this stick is that jason, myself and others are making quality products and we have not been afforded the same opportunity as RSP to wear the "approved product" label. To me, and others that is just wrong..

oh, and yes my parts come from China, as do the majority of RSP's parts! I just have better QC..

    cheers

I understand most things come from China, I also understand you pay for QC.. so no disrespect on the smaller outfits trying to supply to the restorer.

    Interesting can of worms this...

I wonder how many people will voice their frustration with Holden when their RS parts are not up to scratch?

Mick can I order a tail tent from you please? One with a big 'Up Yours' finger on the back instead of the logo

    No disrespect taken, mate...

Can of worms, yes indeed.. I honestly believe that some of the questions that I put to Holden in Nov 2009, pretty well rattled them and it was easier to just hand it over to RSP. I thought that for awhile there was a chance that us little guys may have got a look in as well, but that was not to be.

A question that I put to Holden was "who in Holden is QA'ing the RSP products?"

lol!! with the tail tent.. They will be done with the logo as I have Holden approvals for them..

    cheers
    Mick

It all sounds bad then. I know there is no market for crap reproduction parts with poor quality control.

It sounds like another case of big dollars crucifying small business.

Sound's like "Supa Cheap" quality, but not so cheap in the end. How can it all be tied up with only one "authorised" supplier?

Maybe able to sell them though rare spares. But Id expect by the time rares put their bit on it they would be in excess of $700 a set.
I think you guys are reading more into this than it actually is. Holden cannot stop anyone from reproducing vehicle spare parts to be sold as "non-genuine spare parts".

I seriously doubt the name "Sandman" could be trade marked by Holden as the name was around long before Holden decided to use it on their vans and utes of the 70's. They probably would have registered the decal design but that registration has long since expired. What you can't do is use the GMH logo or sell any reproduction parts as GMH or Holden approved reproduction parts whereas Rare Spares can.

In the case of the tail tents Holden can't stop anyone from reproducing them but you do need their approval to print the Holden Lion logo on them.

All Rares have done is gain the right to purchase original Holden tooling that Holden no longer requires. Good for them in 30yrs time when VE Commodores become classic cars.

Up until the new designs act 2003 which came into effect in June 2004 you could register a design for a maximum period of 16 years, initially for 1 year and then 3 x 5yr renewals... an aftermarket company can reproduce parts if the design is no longer registered. Our early Holdens have long passed the expiry date on registered designs.

Under the new act a company can manufacture non-genuine spare parts for any vehicle manufactured after June 2004 without infringing registered design. Design registration is now a maximum of 10 years.

Isn't there something saying that if you make 3 MINOR changes, copyright becomes void??

Agro, vehicle parts don't come under copyright laws.

sstorana, what research have you done besides look up the trademarks? Have you consulted a lawyer?
I don't see any registered trademark for the decal sets, only picture logo's with a panelvan. There are other Sandman trademarks for medical equipment, sandman floor sanding, sandman consultancy and sandman mattresses.

Regardless, the decals have a part number and are therefor car parts... under the designs act you can legally reproduce non genuine replacement parts. Sandman decals has been doing them for years without a problem, why would Jason have problems now?

Jason, if you are not going to proceed with the decals I would be happy to take the artwork and ink off your hands and start producing them...
