    LS1 into HZ.

Ok well because I love to stuff around. Its time to upgrade the engine in my HZ Sandman ute.

I have got hold of a VT SS complete. 6 Speed and all. Low KM.

So I am removing the VS 5L and supra 5 speed and going to throw in the LS1 and 6 Speed.

I know I will need, engine mounts, wiring, extractors. But just wondering about the trans tunnel. Does it need to be modified? If it does Im not real worried and happy to do it. But just wondering.

Also does it need to be engineered? Bigger brakes? etc? Any other advice if anyone knows anything about the conversion?

    Cheers
    Jason

Don't do it unless you are going to use an auto! You have to do massive mods to the tunnel to clear the 6spd, and it all will require Engineering. Cost of Sump, mounts, Extractors and other bits alone will be close to $2000. Castlemaine Auto Electrics have plenty of info if this hsn't scared you off yet!

If I were you I'd stroke the VS engine to a 350/5.7 and get the Memcal modded to suit. You'll have to get rid of the Supra box though as it will be lunched very quickly by a 350ci Holden V8.

doug nash 5 speed will fit better behind ls1 . less mods on tunnel and a little bit of work on the shifter will come through origanal hole

i've seen it done along with the VX IRS fited to a HQ coupe, and its MASSIVE trans tunnel mods need to fit the manual, raise it, lenghten it, fatten it, and then they had the issue with carpet....another guy i know is doing the swap on a FC holden(LS1 6SPEED)but he is fitting the whole floor from the VT into the FC, only way to do it IMHO

I reckon it is worth it but not with a manual box. I'd make it an auto, way easier and more reliable. as a tow vehicle too. I can't wait to see a VE engine and 6spd auto box in the flesh (out of a car) to see how big the box is as this would be the way to go.

I agree with Byron. I love the engine/gearbox in the VE, but can't stand the rest of the car. A premier wagon with 6L and 6 speed auto, AFM and VE climate control would make an awesome family wagon and tow vehicle.
