What a beauty all the specs for a sandman before they badged them as such. Can't Wait to see it finished love green![]()
HZ Jasmine Yellow Windowless Sandman, now being driven everywhere and is finished!
HZ Madeira Red Windowless sandman now Sold to Bigrob
HX Mandarin Red Sandman Ute finished, and club registered
1979 HZ malachite windowless van with 308 5spd, all chromed up and shiny finished and named "The Player"
Married to RodneyHZ253
Cool... very rare combination. We have listed others like this here and usually the plates are from the Brisbane plant. I dont think you could order this normally but who knows what the dealer got away with. This sort of demand might of driven the marketing towards the Sandman concept.
Did it have a seat seperator and a bench seat shift on the floor?

hi mate, I swapped it as a motorless rolling shell for a motorless HX De Ville roller, complete, in early 2009, so not sure about seat seperator or original shifter, have a stock original 253, ww stromberg, M20 in it now with the 3.08 it arrived with, thanks

thanks, you dont find HQ s with floors and body as straight as this one is, the guy before the one I got it off stripped it for parts!!!!
D1000006.jpgas can be seen on tailgate and pillars its original paint.
You couldn't get a seat separator with floor shift, and you couldn't get a console in Belmont either outside of XX7 or XV2. So it'd just be buckets with rubber in between. You'd be surprised how many V8 4spd HQ vans there were before XX7 became available. The only thing rare about this one is the metallic paint.
haha Well I guess if they could convince the dealer that the only way they would buy the van off him is if he ordered it with a colour not usually available for Belmont commercials then anything could be swindled. It would be interesting if we obtained the full history of a van like this. This might verify that they could be ordered like this but wernt produced to be shipped to dealers to sell off the lots.

That is how I imagined it would of work. Prior to 1/74 you would of required a dealer to order a factory 2 seat metallic paint panelvan. Post Sandman they would of just ticked the XX7 box. Why would you order something outside the ordering procedures when there was a special vehicle package. I wouldnt imagine there would be any examples like this after 1/74.... not unless the new owner violently objected to the GTS dash and guards.
