Wow a 6 cyl one.. we dont see many of those. Im not sure on the weight of the 6cyl ones. :-S
Welcome mate. Have you got some photos of the shell. If it is "full of rust" I wouldnt imagine it would be worth an excessive amount especially given its a 6 banger. I would weigh up the value being the sum of the GTS parts that are on the vehicle and their condition.
A 6 cyl can be good in some ways as this can free up what you wish to do with it. When they are origional L31 models the pressure is to restore them as per origional. This would be ripe for a transplant with later running gear and make a pleasant driver. Cotillion White and Slate Black trim is a desirable colour combination.

It certainly is a Sandman. I've had this one recorded for a while now, just didn't have the chassis number. Good one to modify as Mauser says.
Yep, thats mine

The car came to us with the 186, from the factory it had a 202... hell every teenager i grew up with changed the engines on a kingswood of some sort. Dunno if full of rust is an accurate discription because only a couple of people have looked at it, but yes it has the usual rust in the usual places. The Wife has advertised it for sale because since my spinal surgery restoring cars is somewhat painful, but considering the interest we have had we may keep it now. For an absolute "worst case scenario" I have looked at online sites like rare spares, e bay and Gumtree and could get complete replacement pannels and paint for under $2000.... but any one with half an idea about restoration would be capable of cutting it out and re-welding replacement metal, not like it's hard.
I had put this car up for sale after long talks with my husband due to his back and also due to me having a little one, I didn't want to see it go to waste and thought that I would put her up for sale for someone to be able to bring her back to her former beauty, however, I have had alot of People try and tell me that it is not a sandman, when we had consulted this site to confirm that it was aswell as Holden Australia. I ( a Lady) bought this car because they are a dying breed, but it seems to me that everyone is a little to stuck up to see what this car could be, not what it is at the moment. there is a little rust in the floor pan on the left side, seal panel, the bottom of the doors, a little where the roof is connected, the radiator support beam will also need replacing, and there is a dent on the front left mud guard. other than that she is in pretty good condition considering her age. I have seen younger cars in alot worse condition. I am now not going to sell this and going to keep her due to the crap that I have been put through trying to pass on a diamond in the rough. I was asking $2500. that was it. as that is all I had paid for her myself.
Any chance you can put some picks up, would love to have a look?
Hello wench78to the forums. Good to see another enthusiastic sand woman. Lol. We buy rusty old vans ( two In fact) and have restored one of them so far and will do the other later in the year. We have done a shed find van and a ute which didn't need much rust or panel work. Good luck with your resto you can put a seat in the back for your children too which I wish we had done 25 years ago and we would still have an origanal van lol. I have not come across a six cylinder HX but have in a HJ
Cheers Jennie

Good on you for keeping it. I know exactly how you feel. It's just not worth the bs these days unless you're selling the absolute top of the line models with no doubt as to their identity and all matching numbers. Every bastard is always trying to screw you down on price and just trying to make a bit of profit themselves. I rarely sell stuff anymore and prefer to swap things among mates. That way price rarely comes into it and you end up getting something that you can use rather than something you weren't.
