Hi ozbox, I am a novice to mig welding but have done a fair bit of stick welding. Why use gasless wire?

Gas v's gasless

- gasless can do outdoors when windy.
- gasless rolls of wire is expencive. But if not using it often it saves you money on gas bottle rent.
- gasless burns hotter. So not ideal compared to gas.
- gasless leave a flux. so needs to be cleaned more than gassed welds.
- gasless gives off more splatter.

all correct and the reason i used gasless wire is because that was what was in the mig when i got it back from my mate....because over the years i havent done much welding nor had the need to i let my rental on the bottles go as it was expensive...

i actually became pretty good at using a mig with normal wire and no gas...not good for panelwork though..

i reckon i am one of the only wrecking yards that do not have a gas axe....:neutral:

i use reciprocating saws for all my cut sections..l.which is also what i used to cut my nose cone..
oxy is also a pain to use as you need to strip the car out so it dont catch on fire.

Yeah, I have an oxy here that I might use 3 or 4 times a year to cut a bearing out or cut/bend plate steel if I am building/repairing something. It is probably the most expensive tool to run in my shed because of the rent on the cylinders. I wish they would just let you buy the bloody cylinders.

never had to worry about oxy hire mates have mine service vehicles and they are fitted with bottles so it's a simple empty and exchange deal they got going on.

oxy....but like said the cost was bullshit and the labour involved in stripping a car to do a cut section using oxy outweighed the cost of what you charge for the cut....never mind having to breath all the tar and sealers and crap...:knockout:
