how to find your chassis number ..with pics

this question seems to pop up all the time for hq to wb vehicles...chassis number is on the drivers side chassis rail next to the steering box...or...in that general area up or down the rail by only a couple of inches...if there is no number there it generally meens that the vehicle has had its chassis replaced with a new one when it was young and you could still buy them from gmh spare parts.new ones were blank and if they were replaced the panelbeaters were usually to lazy to stamp a number into them.. :knockout:

So in theory it would be ok to stamp the number on to the blank chassis rail?

i had actually written something along those lines at the end of my post but deleted it as it always starts an argument amongst the purists ...

in the old days...8 years or more ago...you wouldnt give a stuff about the stamp/numbers as long as they were there and you could register your car..

these days...from a few years ago..up to 8....the purists will be able to identify the stamping fonts as not being correct..the depth of the stamp..if its in line or not...etc etc etc .
