I think of it as entertainment money. Think of someone who has already done up some early HQ Monaro and gets immense joy from taking it out to shows. That money for the caps might be this years expense on the car and if he has it... why not. As Kerry Packer once said ""I only gambled what I could afford to lose".... that amount may be nothing in comparison to the joy they bring.

well as time goes by things become more like hens teeth and so the price goes up if want something that bad you have to pay for it so l say good luck to the seller and for thoughs who wouldnt pay that sort of coin GET OVER IT
The seller on Ebay is doing what all of us can do, list and item for what you think it is worth as we operate in a free market. We either like the price or keep on walking.

Alright , so we've established that $1200 is the going rate (and I'm way out of touch on pricing) but what about his marketing strategy that perhaps I should have elaborated on further in my initial post? For an item of that cost, why do sellers insist on alienating buyers by adding in little things like "don't query my postage costs" ? It reads as the seller being inflexible and arrogant. Would you put up with those kinds of demands from a salesman in a shop? Would it make such a huge difference to ask $1250 for the item and include free registered insured postage? Personally, I'd pay more for an item from another seller if I thought I was going to get friendlier service and less chance of hassles with the sale. First impressions count for a lot when you're selling items at top dollar.

I dont mine paying top dollar for something if it is what its advertised to be but it annoys me also when people also try to fleece you on the postage, there is no way they would cost $40 registered post to send $20 would cover it, it just makes the seller look greedy. Recently a guy in QLD was selling some 1/18 diecast models and the rare ones he had for sale he was charging twice the postage to the cheaper ones.
I'd avoid him re postage comment, agree with HJ308, sure to have troubles.
I'm not so sure that's the going rate for the caps, I think people on here have just agreed that a seller can ask whatever they want and maybe get lucky that Lindsay Fox or James Packer are doing up a HQ with GTS wheels.
I echo your thoughts playwme. I've been called girl before but never poor. Let him ask what he wants, if some peanut pays it well so be it. The problem is giving sales like that exposure on this site. Market gets bumped up and it makes it harder for all the poor people out there to restore their old gts spec holden

i dont think that exposure on this site pushes up the market in any way..if anything it opens the eyes of the people that dont get out much...yes there is some ridiculous prices but its very surprising what people pay for the correct part.

and they are not cheap anymore if they are in real good nick..i sold the set off my muraled van for 2k without tyres..15x7s and 15x9s..
Not bad considering I paid $1600 for a set of V5's new in 1994!
