Hi wanting some opinions on this HZ panel van

Its a 1978 HZ Holden Panel van

is this a sandman or very good optioned commercial?

being a Z there are a long list of cross checks that need to be done that are completely unrelated to the Id tags. 2200 is commercial tyres. look for all GTS gear, twin light front, courtesy light door switches, headliner teeth, blackouts, relay behind brake booster, centre console, yellow needle dash and so on and so on and on and on. either way your half way there with tags that could be sandman! Byron will shed some light. good luck and hope it turns out for you!

It could be, or it could just be a V8 Holden van. If it is it is an XU3 and there aren't that many of these around anymore. Send me the VN and chassis numbers off it and i'll see if it all aligns OK too.

Ill have a look at the pano on the weekend, but yes it has few gts parts, is a GU3 still a sandman tho it says, the XU3*Special Vehicle Package was released later in mid 1975 during the HJ series, giving GM Holden an additional Sandman model on the market.

XU3 is the original Sandman package from 1974. The 2nd one with passenger tyres appeared (on cars) late in 1975, and the XX7 code was moved to the new package. Later XX7 is much more common today tham XU3 though.

So it didnt come with Gts rims? Also what about the centre console? Thanks

N66 (and later N67) rims and centre console were both optional on any HZ Holden van, but were standard on XX7 and XU3 so a Sandman needs to have them but it doesn't positively identify any van as a Sandman if it has them. The only positive identifier of a 5/78 HZ XU3 is the rear headlining attachment strips, but remember these were also standard on HZ Kingswood vans.

Looks to be a Brisbane built van so it should have XU3 stamped on the plate if it is a Sandman shouldn't it Byron? Or we're not all Brisbane vans stamped?

Edit- actually it might not be Brisbane built. What's the number after the 2 H's in the vin?
