Wiper Switch Facia from Rare Spares

Spot the difference between the new Rare Spares Facia on the left and the original on the right.

The hole is much bigger. I normally woulldn't care that much but the hole has to be smaller as it holds the switch on the knob and stops it springing off.

Now another trip back to the Rares. 2 hours and $20 in petrol and tolls for a $27 refund.

Surely it is not that hard to cut a hole the same size. Leave it solid and I can cut the hole myself. At least it would be the same size.

Why go back? Call em up and tell them to refund to your credit card. If they want their crappy product back then tell them to send someone out to pick it up.

I have checked the wiper dwell switch at one of our specialist testers today and find that the one we supply is as per an original switch . You can see from the photos that the knob goes right through the clear plastic, and is not held in place by the plastic. We laid our plate over the original and our hole is the exact same size. The replacement cover fitted perfectly to the switch.P5020019A.jpgP5020020A.jpgP5020021a.jpg

Not sure how your research works. Unless you are using a different part to one I just purchased.

The original part has a hole that is just big enough to let the knob through but small enough to stop the wider backing of the knob though the hole. This is what holds it on. Your reproduction part has a hole that is so big it lets the entie knob through which is useless. Your photos do look like the correct size. But the one I bouht is not.

Rare Spares. You can see that it is way bigger than the backing of the switch knob:

Both side by side, tell me those are the same size hole.

Would love the reproduction one you have tested. It appears to be correct.

It does appear our one has a larger hole than the original one you have. There were a couple of model variants when we started getting this done, along with a square one (HQ). Some of the switches had the part number stamped on the body as you can see in one of our photos.. can you check if this is on yours? According to our advisers the one we did is the most popular. If needed you can ring me at the office. 93054000

I have made up a metal backing plate to go behind the facia that fits now. Do you actually have the one with the smaller hole?

I think you will find that the part number is on the metal behind the facia.

would have to agree with HZSandman mine is the same, no good with larger hole as the clear plastic holds the knob bit in, had it out the other day slight crack in mine, used a bit of loctite prisim gel to repair it, cant see it now.

    Confirmed

Hi all, I unfortunately bought the same wrongly-sized part..went to my rare spares dealer and told them about it, they are contacting the head office to (hopefully) correct the issue.
Will have to wait and see, but yes the part is useless as is. I guess you could glue the knob to its shaft but I don't want to do that, the flange is there for a reason.

I ended up putting a thin peice of tin (painted black) with a hole cut to the correct size behind the plastic so it holds the knob in place. Looks ok but would prefer the correct part with the correct size hole.
