No it is not wrong to post it, unless the email specifically says that it is a confidential email between the sender and receiver and not to be published.

I'm with you. Although you could argue they were an overpriced sticker kit from the moment they went on sale.

its nothing to exciting. couldnt really tell me much. but sounds like i may have a rare car on my hands....

    Hi Adam,

There were approx. 150 of the HBD canopy’s built.

They were a build to order.

Only built as one spec type so what you have is exactly what all the other canopy’s are built like.

They are fibreglass with 2 small internal pop out windows.

Carpet lined inside, and with a lift up rear latch.

Not sure what else I can tell you about them apart from they were quite popular and built to a very high standard.

The defence force ordered around 10 for their promotional purposes.

If you went to an air show you would see a couple of black panel vans with screens and speakers mounted inside the canopy.

    Hope that helps.

    Regards,

    Jassen

    Adam,

All canopy’s were built with the rear window fitted.

Not sure if it is unroadworthy with it removed.

Best to check with your licensed Mechanic/RWC centre.

Sorry but I don’t have access to any HBD serial numbers.

Does it have a HBD build plate under the bonnet.

The option code should be HCAN with a date stamped.

That should confirm it is genuine.

    Regards,

    Jassen

But your right they were not factory offered.

    Just like this:

Of course the VE is an AMCAT build and really shouldn't have Sandman on it at all.
    But it shows the design.

    Some personal expression:

That's about what I would have expected from the knuckles at Holden Customer Service.
Nothing that they said is untrue, but none is very accurate either.

The Orange Van was owned and built by John Evans who is pretty much the grandfather of Vanning in Australia. He owns a business called Race Paint and was the painter of the MAMBO SANDMAN.
Back in the early 1970's John built a HQ Van known as "Tangerine Dream". Later he would start a business called Vanmakers later Vancraft Plastics.

John was inducted into Majestic Vanners Legends Hall Of Fame last weekend. Without John's influence the Van scene of the 1970's would have been a lot different (if at all!).

    Regards, Smooth

John obviously knows a thing or two about Panel Vans and what's what.
See the MAMBO SANDMAN image in the background.

    Serious RESPECT
