    5L EFI tuning

I picked up a fairly gnarly VS V8 ute recently. its cammed up, has gilmore belt drive etc 3.9s blah blah. It runs really rich atm on the standard ECU. ive had quotes for tuning from a $4K motec to a $1200 piggy back with dyno included. Is there a cheaper way out of it? I only paid $2K for the bloody thing so i cant justify spending that again just to have it tuned!!! I heard there is a company in the eastern states that does a mail box tune. send your orig ECU and they chip it and send it back. Anyone have any tips or info? thanks!

There are plenty of places with Kalmaker software, you take your car to them, they put their ECU in it and tune it up on the dyno, then flash a new memcal for yours. Search for Kalmaker tuning on Google. There are other brands too. You can do it yourself as well for a few $ but not worth it for a 1-off.

I've had one tuned on the dyno before with Kalmaker $700. Mail order from www.memcals.com and another from a person on eBay goes by the name nicefrog. Both were as good as the dyno tune. Both of them are well known on the forums both mechanical and the tuning.

Memcals.com known as Chip doctor on the forums $300 and nicefrog known as Greenfoam on the forums was $150.
