i am looking at restoring my van, want to be as sure as i can it is original sandman ?

Has the welded on piece for rear section rooflining, and has door switches for intirior light. orininal gts dash and consul still in place, and some of the original aqarius paint showing if dodgy spray job is removed, or scratched. it is in need of complete rebuild, and is on the top of my list of things to do next year. having just got my shiny new car rottiserrie

i just phoned gmh in melbourn who are sending me any build info on this van, but he said they will not confirm if it is or isnt a sandman ? i need to work it out from the info provided. ? so i will wait and see what they send me.

Gmh records will struggle to tell the difference between a Sandman and a Barina.

Yours seems to have most of the bits to be a Sandman. Interior colour of Chamois Vinyl might be a confirmation, Byron will be along soon to confirm whether that interior was available on the base model.

It is most likely a Sandman, the best evidence is the headlining strips on a HX Holden van and passenger tyre GVW. But there is always a small chance it isn't. GMH will have no idea, don't bother. I'll have a better look at it tomorrow for you.

I didn't think they had the records to do this, I'll have to give them a ring to find out build info for my van.
I've also noticed that the RTA (NSW) can provide a history of your car, i wonder if this shows the number of owners etc???

I already had it recorded as a Sandman, so it must have been from an Ebay auction or something like that. Numbers all align OK. But I cannot tell you for certain without looking at the body if it is definitely one, i'm pretty confident though.

thanks for the help, it is showing all the signs of being original from what i have learned from this site. i will make plans to go ahead with a full original resoration where parts are avaliable. and stick with the original trim, paint colours.

You are lucky, 60A is the nicest later HJ and HX trim. Probably the nicest of all trims available on Sandman.

just noticed member 76hxpano has the same van the was right behine mine in the production line being only one digit out on vin and body number, identical in build specs as mine also. that has to be rare find on here ?
i wonder if he rstored it ?

The two vans were completed 5 x days apart. L369617 was 5 days earlier than L369616.
