How do we feel about body swaps???

Heay guys, i have recently purchased a nice hj 253 4 speed all original. Allmost a sandman but not quite. The thing is the body is a buet. Up from at bathurst, no rust. The thing is i have been looking at a few vans (original sandmans). That body wise are toatally gone.
But for a couple of grand or so i get evreything else i want including colours and engine size. Tags ect...ALONG WITH CHASSIS, RAILS.ECT Is it ok to swap bodies???

Well some people say its not a Sandman if its had a body swap, so if thats so then if you smash your hq coupe monaro and replace the body off another coupe, does that mean its not a Monaro anymore?..mmmm what is it then!! Lol

If you must use the term "et cetera", learn how to get the abbreviation correct with the letters in order! It is etc NOT ect. Learn here
    Sorry pet peeve...

I say it's fine to swap bodies. Learn the Sandman differences and put the new body right. Tell nobody.

Hi everyone haven't been on for awhile, if the cars id is the tags and the chassis number the nsw rta go by the chassis number to id the car for year and model. I dont see anything wronf with this, as long as you have a shell with the factory 2 seats and floor shift. The sandmans dont have the id on the body so its id stays with the id tags and the chassis number.

Thanks for that, i tend to agree, how much of a car are you allowed to replace before it's not the original car anymore. I'm sure a lot of your resto's are barely the original car anymore? Cheers.l31

If i fix up a rusted out body, and replace all the parts with rare spare bits. It ends up 70% new parts( rust replacement panles). I see this the same, just one big panle. Lol

    I agree 100%.
    Lets see:
Replace sills - Replace rear quarters - Replace front floors - Replace roof turret - Replace both tailgates & doors - Replace side panels from windowed to windowless.

Whats left??? Sweet bugger all, and it looks like a patchwork quilt.

Also if you replaced the teeth at the rear for the hoodlining and the longer side straps for the hoodlining in your Sandman, (i think Rare Spares do these or are they sold aftermarket) it won't be classed as an original anyway and what's to say it WAS a Sandman to start with?

The problem you have is a HJ Sandman body is unique, and there are 2 x types: Elizabeth and Acacia Ridge. You might as well just build up the car as it is, and by by putting the body on a Sandman chassis and tags it is still not really a Sandman as the body is different.
