There was a massive rainstorm 18 laps short of the finish. A heap of cars crashed (including "that fella's" Skyline GTR) and the race was called off. The results were calculated based on the leaders position 2 laps earlier to allow more crashed cars to be placed. In effect, this meant that a crashed undriveable car (and a Nissan at that) won the race and the Lion/Oval brigade didn't like that much and booed Richards and Skaife as they came to the podium.
