    XU1 on Carsales

Very rare XU1 on Carsales fitted with the experimental 4 spd Trimatic

    http://www.carsales.com.au/private/d...-1972-13171774

These letters are not worth the paper they are printed on.

The car in question looks a nice example but I wouldn't have put the letter in the ad

Anybody get a letter for their car that contains errors like this one post em up?

I think about 1 in 5 that I see are actually correct!

Yoiu have to know how to understand the BESTBAC codes on the records as well or you'll misinterpret the data, which they normally do. To understand the codes, you need a pretty good undestanding of the vehicles you are looking at. One example that comes to mind is on LJ XU-1, the code for the diff shows open centre 3.36. However all these cars had LSD. The reason it doesn't show up in the coding is the LSD is part of the XU1 special vehicle package, hence not an option - BETSBAC codes are all about mechanical options. Another is the front discs on HJ's. Discs come standard with V8, so the codes show drums for V8 HJ's.

Look at the date on the letter, 2 days after Christmas. That customer service employee was obviously thrilled about being at work, and no doubt still hung over from too much Christmas cheer.

i rang holden when i had a LJ XU-1. they said i must quote engine number for them to tell....as 82911 model is GTR and GTR XU-1

i notice this ad has no mention of a JP or NP block....not even on letter from holden..

this diff option on the BODY tag on XU-1 is G95 as HK points out ,....... and XU-1's have it stamped G95 on the BODY tag

They were telling you porkies. XU-1 is easy to pick from GTR on the service/warranty records. The betsbac code for the engine and box is different. Considering probably only half have an engine number recorded they'd be stuffed with that too! You won't find an NP number in the records either.

holden just don't seem to know what is what.
they told me that a 82911 body and a JP or NP prefix would be XU-1.

there is nothing on this letter that confirms XU-1 either

thats good , but i am always wary whith one of the most cloned holdens made.

its seems like who you get on the phone at holden assistance depends on what outcome you get.

The records don't show the first letter, so JP123456 would be in the records as P123456, so they wouldn't know if the number there was an NP or JP. It is extremely unlikely that a car would have been recorded with an NP number. This number was assigned to replacement engines and replacement short motors. The engine in the car was recorded when it went back to a GMH dealer for its complimentary service (1000kM or 500miles), which is why half of them aren't recorded as they didn't go back. If an XU-1 blew and engine in that period they would normally have been fixed with a block and piston kit and a new crank, and these were (as far as I can determine) stamped with the original number. It'd have to be a REALLY big failure to get a short motor (which I have been told were hard to get in a hurry) or a complete engine, and then have that NP engine in it if it went back for the first service. You'll pick an XU-1 NP in the records anyway as they'll be 4 digit not 6 eg P4567 not P123456.
