They came very close with the Suburban. Sold it in both V8 diesel and V8 petrol (to keep everyone happy) then only sold the wagon version. Ute equivalents would have sold like hotcakes - just look at the F250's. Although Ford stuffed this up a little too, I looked to buy one new The reason I didn't buy one was I couldn't buy a V8 petrol single cab 4x4 in base model. I wanted a column shift auto, bench seat 4x4 V8. I ended up with the same thing in the Overlander.

Geez Holden is really pushing the Colorado 7......i could be wrong, but it feels like they are telling us what to drive...not asking what we want. I dunno, i dont get good vibes from all of this! :(

It is a Colorado chassis with a wagon body, and a piddly little 2.8L diesel 4cyl. Same concept as a baby Landcruiser (Prado) and a Pathfinder. At least Toyota offer a 4.0L petrol engine. I know it is just a cheap and easy way to sell a competitor to these but if they had any sense they'd but a 6.0L in it. They put the awful 3.0L Commodore V6 into a Captiva so they can do it. On that, I drove the 7 seat Captiva before we bought the RX350 and it was awful. We liked the smaller 5 seater, but guess what? They missed the mark again, and only made it a 2WD and only a piddly little engine.

What is it with Holdens having a low tow rating?? You were spot on saying, at least Fords can tow!!

I think Holden is really late to the party with the SUV....the market has been flooded with them for a while.

Gone are the days where thinking outside the box was rewarded

Independant back end on the utilities. The Tonner and crewman could tow OK. My Cross8 was good for 2500kg. I think Ford tonners are 2300kg.

I was looking at a SS crewman, and going to various building site talking to crewman owners, ALL of them said they despise the fuel consumption......whether it was the SS or the standard v6. This is turning me off them at the moment and a 4x4 looks to be the better option nowadays

They are fine on fuel. My Cross8 averaged around 14L/100 or thereabouts once it had a decent exhaust and tuned. This is good for a 2tonne petrol fuelled ute. The 2WD varieties will be similar to a Statesman, these get around 11L/100 highway and around 15L/100 town. The key is getting them tuned to turn lean cruise back on and having a decent tune done.
