Hey Big Blocker, just a question re the attatchment strip.....is this a factory only thing or could any idiot get his hands on one in the day and tac it on? I've got a few photos of this thing and cant wait to get it here on the weekend to read the id tags. Old mate i'm buying it from is a Holden nut and seems to know his stuff so i doubt it will be anything but a mock up.....live in hope but.

If anyone want's to see pictures of it go to gumtree and type in sandman.......with a blank 'distance from' option and it's the orange windowless van.......believe it or not, in Byron Bay...... $800 and a carton

    Go the Hawks.....Rockape

Factory only, very difficult to remove and re-attach.

In my years of playing with Holdens, Toranas and Statesmans i've met a lot of experts who on the surface seem to know their stuff. But then you find out they know bugger all after 10 minutes of conversation......Yep my uncle had an original GTS327 with an auto box...Or I bought a Sandman brand new with column shift....etc.

I just looked at it, and she's 'ted. Too rusty for me! Still could easily be a Sandman though, unless it has had a body swap.

Spoiler cutouts in the front apron and ad says 1977? Sure it's not an early HZ?

If I were you I'd be going and getting it quick before someone else calls and makes a better offer. Better off not posting too many details of these sorts of things until its paid for and in your possession. Ask V6hqute how he knows why this is important.

Yeah fair call. It's funny though as i rang the seller who posted the add and it had already been sold. He said the guy who bought it only ended up taking it as he had travelled a considerable distance with trailer, otherwise he'd have left it.....and as far as he knew he was going to wreck it. He was nice enough after some gentle persuasion, to give me the buyers number and i rang him. we talked for an hour or so and he agreed to give it to me as he couldn't be bothered wrecking it and as luck would have it he stumbled upon a HJ 308 wagon on the trip home and bought that too. My man is heading there tomorrow with trailer to pick it up, but yes, i agree, it's not mine till i have it and have paid for it. What will be will be and i only really want the side infills anyway. Interesting re the gripping bar for the head lining though. Wait and see i guess...

Hey Rockape, I think you said it might have a twin headlight front? I would be interested in that if you are going to sell it. PM me if that's the case. Cheers.

Get us some pics. A few detail ones of the headlining strip, console brackets on the trans tunnel, tags inner door pillars where the courtesy light switch should be.
Chassis is HZ (hence why he said it was a 77 in the ad, was probably registered as a HZ.) that front nose cone with the cutouts still looks like a HZ Sandman nose cone to me, or someone raped a HZ GTS to get parts. Pic of the GTS dash as well.

Also, try scratching/sanding off some paint along the sills and around the door frame, see if there is any evidence of blackouts underneath.

Hmmm. Could easily be one, and if it is it is an XU3 which are not that common in HJ. I have a heap recorded around it, one with a BODY number of 194317 and another with a PSN of H891954. Both are a long way away in chassis number but none of that is unusual for Pagewood, especially foreign bodies vehicles like the vans were. As playwme says, get some picturs of the headlining attachnent strips along the inside of the drip rails and the one at the rear above the tailgate. Plus the console mounts on the floor, with no carpet if you can. Inner door pillars are no use on a HJ though.

Good Sandman if it is, Papaya with black trim. If you do wreck it and don't sell the body with tags and it turns out to be a Sandman let me know, i'd love those tags for my ID plate collection and also for research purposes. I want to put photos in the book of really desirable Sandman tags in the ID plate section, and a HJ XU3 van in Papaya with black trim and L32 M21 driveline is a pretty cool one to put there. I think I have 4 or 5 sets of HJ L31 van tags but they are all boring colours. Funny that I have heaps of HQ and HJ, a few HX but no HZ tags!
