All depends on offset of the 8" rims and/or if you are prepared to roll the lips on the rear guards.

What was the standard gts rim size from the factory for HQ-HZ? Have seen so many variants from 14" to 16". Did they change with the model changes at all and did they differ from utes to vans?

GTS in HQ had 14x6 steel N66 rally rims, as was early HJ. From January 1975 you could option 14x7 PE1 rims (polycast) but the 14x6 N66 rally rim remained standard on GTS, plus in HZ you could option the N71 14x6 wire wheel on GTS. On 18/8/78 the N67 14x6 alloy rally rim replaced the N66 and the PE1 polycast wheel as standard or optional fitment on GTS.

I've got a set of 8s gts I was running 215 all round but found it didn't handle to well and had a lot of problems with the tyres wearing properly now I run 235 on the front and 245 on the rear big improvement all around and looks better

I ended up with 6's with 215 on the front and 8's with 245/50's on the rear. Looks OK but I'm still keeping an eye out for a pair of 7's to fill out the front a bit better. I still the pair of 265/50's and am planning to put the 245/50's on 7's on the front (when I find them) and put the 265/50's on the 8's on the back. I put 2" lowering blocks on the rear which is a bit too low for my liking so will probably remove them. Everybody to their own but I like the older look of 245 on 7's and 265 on 8's which was pretty popular 'back in the day'

Still haven't been overly happy with the rim size on the van... the 6X14 with 215/65's don't fill the front out in my opinion. I stumbled across another set of GTS locally in Geelong - a pair of 6X14's with white wall tyres and a pair of 8X15's. After seeing a Blue HJ for sale with a really nice stance a couple of weeks ago which had 14's on the front and 15's on the back, I'd thought I'd grab them and see what the van would look like with the current rears (8X14 with 245/50's) on the front and the 15X8's on the back. The tyres on the 15's are 205's and are really stretched on fit, but found a brand new 245/50/15 yokohama pretty cheap so got that fitted just to see how it would look.

The 14X 8's fit nicely under the front and fill out the guards, although it needs to be dropped 1.5 - 2 inches. Someone told me 6 cyl Torana springs will do the trick

The 15X8's have a big back space, about 5 1/2" as best I can tell. With that offset, the 245/60's would be the biggest tyre I could fit as there is very little clearance on the inside now. The 15's fill out the guards nicely (in my opinion) although I reckon a 15X8 with a 4 1/2 or 5" backspace would be best - then probably 265/50/15. Anybody have any thoughts about this or have done similar?

So might be back to the drawing board looking for some 15X8 rears I reckon

Now I've got a spare pair of 14X6 GTS rims and a pair of 15X8 - one with a 245/60 Yokohama 352 with 100% tread (still got the sticker on it). I'll probably stick these on eBay or throw them in the back and try to sell them at the All Holden Day in Geelong on 14th March

    Cheers, Jez

I had 15*7 Simmons on my WB. They had 225 60 series tyres. Looked ok. To be honest, 14*8 with 245 60 series on rear and 235 60 series on front fill the guards out the best. Why do you think every one took the poxy (at the time) Holden wheels off. Not to fit a set of 6 or 7 inch wheels that's for sure.
