    I thought it was not a sandman because it's a "2200kg" vehicle.
Which means it could not have either the "GTS" rims or the "option 67 Alloys" (mid HZ plus) as standard.
Either 2000kg or 1950kg would be correct.
    Or is that just vans?

    But what do I know.

Still not convinced as to whether it is or it isnt help please!

Hey thanks for all the info and help but I have been searching all day and Im not convinced that this is or is not a sandman and I wont be able to sleep tonight until I know! Please have a look at what I have found and then Ill be done and dusted...

I have taken some photos of my ute I value all opinions

568-17779 Mint Julep was a standard solid sandman colour see colour chart picture

tyre placard no 9942827 see pic 27 and same colour and placard as this link worth a read http://www.fastlane.com.au/forums/to...c_id=15447#top

    Link post states that:
9942827 is only for the 2200kg HX sandman and the non HJ 8 Cyl Panel Van, Ute.

your colour is Mint Julep and would have had the Plum/ Purple/ Dark Blue stripes
GVW is 2200kg as per above link

HX sandmans can come with the 19V trim as per this link http://www.monaroparts.com/sandman.htm

Note that I have found a 4/76 HX Sandman ute (chassis number AHX00014A) that was built prior to the end of HJ production. It had 19V trim which is not normal for a HX Sandman. The reason is it was built during the HJ model run where HJ base models had 19V trim, whether they were a Sandman or not.

    The V8 XU3 Variants had a GVM of 2200kg

Could this be a very rare XU3? Or a sandman ordered with this 19V interior? Were the interiors able to be ordered?

Motor is the L32 which was the high performance 253 not a L31 run of the mill commercial banger found in commercial holdens

It also had the M20 4 speed not M21 as stated earlier?

Something to do with the rear window? See pics

It has forced vents? see dash pics 23 and 24 (No good in winter or once youve washed the car!!)

Mirrors look like they were black before respray? pic 25 (If they are the right ones!)

    Has the armrests pic 26

Has door switches with factory wiring

Has carpet front buckets and a cigarette lighter

By all means I am not a historic detailed car man but I did put in the INJ 304 T700 BW DISC brake diff with VT master cyclinder the old banga goes and stops now!

    All information is greatly appreciated!!!

Just so you know, the monaro parts website is owned by Hk1837. He hasn't updated it for a while as he is still doing a lot of research for his Sandman book so don't take too much of what's on monaro parts as gospel because Byron has made a lot of discoveries recently.

Great looking ute there mate. Could you show us a pic of the front console mount in front of the gearshift hole (with the carpet opened up - looks like you've already got it split/cut up there)?

The speedo looks right for early HX but some of the other stuff (like armrests, 5mm wheel, GTS guards and woodgrain facia - is that a decal kit, looks brighter than I remember them...) might not be indicators as it does appear that someone at one stage has spent some $$ on the interior/exterior. The doortrims, GTS horn button, aftermarket mirrors and a couple of other things look nice but out of place if you rely upon them for indicators of what it may have been delivered as originally.

    Regards,

    Dave.

Thats not a Sandman dash facia. They never had wood grain so I would suggest the gts dash has been added at a later date.

I understand that you wish it was a Sandman, but it very clearly isn't. 19V really does eliminate it. As an HX ute I'd expect the GVM should be 1860kg for a Sandman.

It's just an HX base model ute ordered with V8 and black interior. Cheaper than ordering the overpriced sticker kit.

very nice clean ute. love those wheels. if i went new skool id pic them!

Dash facia looks like its from a sedan or something with the elec ariel button. Door handles are chrome (should be black).

    nontheless its very tidy. welcome!

HX sandman ute GVM can be 1800 kgs, 1860 kgs and 2200 kgs and fairly sure (HK1837?) even 2155 kgs..

but yeah most of them are 1860 kgs.

    --- Updated ---

you may have been able to claim sandman ?if you car was early HX, like the one above, look how low the chassis number is... That one i think is the 202 4 sp Mandarin brochure car ute on the dock perhaps...

yours is built 6 months later.

^^Adam is correct, HX Sandman utes can be 1800, 1860, 2155 and 2200kg. The only reason that HX brochure ute had 19V trim was because it was built during HJ production. There is a group of such HX's, all probably brochure or press cars, they'll all be double digit chassis numbers. If you look closely at the HZ brochure the van is actually a HX from memory.
