    painting gts rims for dummies

Images of rims recently painted by 1st time painter. All up cost probably around $1200 as is with tyres. (rims $500 for 4 in good cond. no scuffs etc with centre caps and dress rings)

Could not find any Bridgestones or Firestones to go on the rims. Maybe one day will have to chase some up. Can someone shed light on getting Bridgestones or Firestones.

I have dress rings for the rims, although I like them as they are

    - btw image two - dirt at bottom of rim not paint.

    cheers wayne

Nice looking rims Wayne did you paint them?? in regards to tyres not sure what sort of profile your looking for but I have recently heard that they are about to or have stopped making them in the 245's 265's (14 inch) etc and if you are able to source some I believe you may pay around 200-300 dollars each?? maybe some other guys on here maybe able to shed some light but thats what I was told the other day by someone.

    All 2pak
Blasted and primed, Silver approx 3 coats, black approx 3 coats. Clear approx 3 coats.

The deal with the tyres was (if I remember correctly) Bridgestone are no long making tyres in Aust or NZ. Any stock around is only old stock. I spent a bit of time with the tyre shop as the owner grew up chasing women in his Sandman so had a bit of a vested interest in trying to get the correct tyres. - None available - so maybe Firestones if you can find them or stock at local tyre shop.

The Toyo tyres on the car are obviously not what they came out with - although the car drives beautifully with these tyres so maybe I'm better off.

Could the guru's please enlighten me here please?

I'm not being anal so please don't think that, but i thought the colours were supposed to be grey and charcoal OR was there a model that came out with silver and black as i have seen quiet a few painted this colour?

Having said that the Jamacan Lime (don't quote me on that) van that had a pic taken of it (somewhere on here) looks to have a bright silver and black.

Have been checking out replacment tyres recently. Bridgestone have stopped manufactuaring in Aust now - as of March/April. Coinciding with this they have stopped making most of their wider 14" tyres - eg. RE92's Eagers, Firestone TZ100. Was told that some have not yet been 'delisted' so they may do them again, but don't hold your breath.

The codes Absinth listed are the codes I used.

Problem I had when I went to a specialist car paint shop the person mixing the paint could not find
one of the colour mixes on the system they used (can't remember which one - either silver or charcoal) anyway he hunted
    around and found the formula.

I got a copy of this - although can't read the doctor's scrawl.

I will get them to decipher and post here for anyone who is interested.

    cheers wayne

I could`nt find new 265 for 14 inch rims anywhere in the world...
The Yokies cost me $235 each for the 245 and $195 for the 235 (I just had to have the white letters too)
Got the rims sand blasted and epoxy primered. My brother sprayed them wheel silver and let them sit for a few days, then we sat down and coloured in the blackouts with some left over black gloss and couple of artists brushes ...

You can all stop laughing now but over a year on the road (and a few other places too) all the paint is still there!

I already had the centre caps from another set and I got the rim surrounds from Rare Spares and they did cost a bit but it really sets off that dished look!

All up an expensive exercise, mine are nowhere near as neat wayne g`s but good enough for me.

p.s pic taken when first on
