Getting itchy feet.....

I am starting to get itchy feet after 8yrs in Brisbane and 6yrs in our current house. We did the sea change thing from 90 to 2001 living in Noosa (during which we spent 4yrs overseas in Port Moresby PNG) but it started to get crowded with all the mexicans migrating north so we spent 6mths travelling NSW and Victoria before heading back to Brisbane.

We are now thinking of a change from city life to the country and am looking at returning to my home state of NSW. We are down to Parkes, Wagga or (Coffs Harbour, wifes choice and not really country)

I lived in Wagga in 77 to 79 so know it well but have been through Parkes many times and like the area. Wife is keener on Parkes as it is a little further north. We have found a suitable house in Barton st that we could buy outright after selling here and the idea of not having a mortgage is rather appealing. It's on 3/4 acre has two large sheds (for me) a swimming pool (for my daughter Leela) and wife Jody likes the house.

Now I know Jennie lives in Parkes and we are wondering what the work situation is like in the area for a Carpenter/Builder/Supervisor as this will be a deciding factor in where we eventually move to. I still know people in Wagga and know there is work there but at the moment we are leaning towards Parkes and secondly Coffs.

Our destination may change when and if our house sells but I like getting the feelers out early. Any and all input appreciated.

if i was goin bush i would look at parkes,been there a couple of times and liked it....

where i really liked was ungarie...60k west of west wyalong...absolutely boring little town with nothing there ...except the cold beer at the top pub...

This is probably no use to you but the biggest open cut coal mine in the southern hemisphere is starting in my home town(Dunedoo) which is an hour and a half from Parkes.

Hey Absinth....If you would like to come and check out Parkes....look us up and we will show you about....we love living here...
and if you have small children there are lots of good primary schools, and a high school, a private school, and a Catholic boarding/day student school in Forbes 1/2 hour

Small world, we lived in Dunedoo back in 68-69. Dad was a right hand station manager for for a guy named Cook. I seem to recall sheep but I was very young and we also lived on stations at Meandarra SP? ...and Tara (southern Qld.) One of them was a sheep station, one was cattle and one was wheat and cattle.

I didn't realise you were Builders Jennie, I read about Rodney having a scaffolding ticket in the red HZ thread so figured you were at least in the industry.

That is the design of house we would like to build next, if we ever get around to it...saw a couple similar on Fraser at Kingfisher bay, we like to blend into the environment a bit if possible....that looks great...
