Yep, i've got the same attitude. The new race cars are so controlled, so close to each other in every aspect....they dont resemble its road version apart from the headlights, tail lights and grille badge. I guess it feels like the glory days are long gone with the 'win on sunday, sell on monday' motto. I understand technology plays a massive part in being competitive, but i think the real DNA of their road going versions is nowhere to be seen in the race cars. I think theyre trying to make it too much like NASCAR.....back in the day NASCAR used to be throw a spoiler and a roll cage and race.....now even the shells they use dont look like the road going version.

I felt for a long time that V8 Supercars has been going downhill and have been less and less interested over the last 15yrs

    My 2 cents...end rant

If the race versions were basically super tricked up HSVs and FPVs, sales would go through the roof!!! A bunch more mods and you could have a race car of your very own.

Now that said, i would imagine Holden and Ford would be engineering better cars....world class even.... if their racecars were hotted up showroom models. Imagine how competitive they would be against each other?!!

Just putting my opinion up mate. Of course i respect your views and wont knock you down for that.....i just feel deflated with the way the sport has become.

Sadly, you're spot on. But revheads will never go away. Its so deep in the Australian culture, its a way of life!!

Sorry Gene, we have to differ here. Those cars are barely related.
If we were racing HSV, FPR, AMG, Nismo road goers with "some" restricted safety measures I'm sure us nay sayers would be all for it.
It's not about the past, it's about real road goers that can be purchased from the car marks they pretend to represent.

Maybe you don't understand what makes up a V8 supercar? Nothing much at all from the manufacturers names they carry.

I know exactly what and how a v8 supercar is built of course you cant buy that car its hand built from scratch but i see no reason for building cars that go that fast anymore you cant use the power on the street bloody hoon laws have put a stop to that so whats the point in making these cars faster and faster
maybe im getting old dont know just cant see the point anymore
and i do own muscle cars but not for thrashing anymore

Yeah Ive been a big fan of V8 supercar and prior to that Group A and Group C Australian touring car series etc, (Group C was cool!) but I dunno about COTF yet - im not quite convinced to be honest, it doesnt really introduce other auto manufacturers to the Holden/Ford only race the touring car championship turned into with V8 supercar, it just introduces their engines, the chassis are all the same in COTF. To me, the chassis is as much a part of the race dynamics of the car as the engine, (I'm not counting the driver and crew here just the car), and Nissan is racing an engine you cant actually buy in Australia at the moment, and if you could, you wouldnt get it on an Altima, and would most likely have some issues getting a RWC if you imported and fitted one to an Altima. So I dunno, what are actually we watching now? Certainly, I think COTF brings in the idea that if everybody raced identical cars with identical engines we would see a real race of drivers and teams, (and that probably the better financed teams would do pretty well, but there would be underdog champions), and that could well be appealing to many who are not currently motor sport fans, but I dunno yet about whether I can really look at the COTF Nissan and call it a Nissan, same goes for the the COTF Holden/ Frod and Merc. Hope I am not being negative, but thats sota what Im feling atm. Skaifey is credited with putting heaps into the COTF platform, but I recall he started out with Nissan - a double agent? Then again, if Holden and Ford both go front wheel drive for Commodore and Falcon in the future maybe COTF had to happen. Oh whoops, did I really just spell Ford 'Frod', damn this cheap as keyboard! Just keeping the fun in it. lol. I'd love to see a Group A or Group C spec race again, Group C Holden and Ford would obviously dominate, but Group A, well, that could be anyones, BMW and Jag would probably get back in there, possibly Audi and VW too you'd get Toyota, Nissan and Mazda for sure, maybe Honda, Subaru - that'd be a way cool race these days.

Yes it was sad. How the mighty can fall. That west point Deal had hairs on it from the start.

I agree the cars today are so far removed from what you can purchase. I think there would be more incentives to win and engineer if they were hotted up showroom models. And now Volvo are entering and they do not even have a production V8 in Australia. It is hard to see a long sustainable future for the category with the way the world is going with smaller cars.

Hi Vanhayden, welcome to the forum.

I havent seen the Volvo yet, I dunno if they've unwrapped it, but when they do, I hope they have thought to paint it in saftey orange!
(Actually I shouldnt mock, volvo did quite well in the 90's in the British two litre touring car series, in 740 wagons! - fun to watch, about 94 from memory).
