my take on gutter rust is that the cold nights provide condensation on the roof which then rolls into the gutter (inside the canopy) and boom.. rust
once douche bag i spoke to reckons it is caused by people flicking their ciggy butts up there which causes rust??? WTF

Lucky it has lived most of it's life in a shed or it would be a lot worse. It was only this year that it started being parked outside.
totally. i owned an HX sandie that was worse than yours. couple plates, swipe of best on ground and you'd never know!

Had one person tell me today that all Sandmans were 5 litres, and another bloke tell me that the model number defines it as a Sandman, like the "D" on an SLR/SS Torana tag.
Managed to convince one that they had 6's and 4.2 litre engines as well, but the other guy was adamant, and actually came to this site on his phone to find the info. Needless to say, he didn't find it...

I just want to thank Byron for his time today looking over the van. Much appreciated mate.
Concluded it pretty well has to be a Sandman going by options, paint etc; that it's not the original engine but one from a HQ; that there's going to be some nice stuff hiding under the paint; and that I better pull my finger out before it gets worse.
So, overall I'm pretty happy with scoring this (as I should be :D ), and I'll start a thread in the right section once stuff starts happening.
Great score nice price great another one saved. Loads if help here if needed. Look at threads to see where to source parts and what's good and what isn't from rares. Ozwreck a good contact and near to you, parts come with invaluable information as well. Good luck
