The rubber bumper strip was available as an optional extra. It was standard on Statesman Caprice and later standard on HX Monaro and HZ GTS.

    a) Did they change from the Black (or white) stripes to the coloured stripes exactly on the change-over to HX or did some late HJ's have the coloured stripes?

    b) What was the more popular stripe on the Blue HJ, White or Black?

    c) Were the Black windscreen moulds (and painted sills etc) on any HJ's or where the for HX onwards only?

    Thanks in advance
    Craig
The coloured stripes were introduced on the HX Sandman. I have the July 77 dated HJ Parts Catalogue and no DX decals are listed.

Hard to say which were more popular, I have seen them with both black and white decals and both look good..... it's more a personal choice.

All model Sandman's had the lower sills, lower guards, lower nose panel (except HZ), lower rear quarters and rear beaver panel blacked out.
Blacked out windscreen surround, black sports mirrors, blacked out door handles, blacked out door window frames and blacked out around the rear tailgate window were introduced on the HX Sandman.

Colour coded sports mirrors and front spoiler were introduced on HZ Sandman.

There are pictures of HX Sandman's with colour coded mirrors and HZ Sandman's with black mirrors but these appear to be anomalies.

Here you go Absinth. It's in the build process along with my HZ (which is a daily driver)

The Ambo pack is looking good since I last saw it. Are you leaving the Prem front on the HJ or returning it to original?

I'll be doing the same as the HZ, but the L88 scoop will be longer.I have 2 HJstatesman grille's but no lower, and 1 upper & lower HZ statesman grille to choose from.
I have a REALLY good single headlight front that i'll keep as a spare just in case.
I also have a spare bonnet for each van which haven't had a hole cut in them.
Also have a set of 4/74 stamped GTS rims in storage for it as well.
This is why i'm deciding whether to put HJ stripes or HX stripes on it.
If i put the HJ ones on it'll be easier to put back to original if i decide to.
Might also put a roof spoiler on as well, but move the roof racks forward.

    Found this pic today.
Was taken at All Holden Day NSW 2008

I don't know what colour blue it is but the white doesn't look to bad at all.

This picture was a van from Carpoint about 6 months ago but forgot to save the other pics and i can't make it bigger. :(
(Note the Sandman on the tailgate. I quite like it done this way).

Were the roof racks a car yard fitted option or an aftermarket idea? (Just deciding whether to leave mine on with a roof spoiler or leave them on).

Aftermarket. Roof racks were not factory fitted on vans and I doubt any dealers had them fitted. In the early 80's we would head down to the wreckers and search the HQ-WB rows for wagons with factory roof racks to fit to our vans.
