Awesome stuff

I thought those side vents behind the doors were deleted in later HQs....maybe a very early Sandman...

Chris from Echuca did say Byron would want to put a V8 in it, strange thing is I have a mild 308 wth 0 km`s from rebuild in my shed. I am in two minds ,but i like the idea of building it to origanal specs , anyway the 308 will go in my VC sle commodore (HDT Rep) .

Either way is OK but with a rebuild on an original 6cyl where you no longer have the engine I think you are almost silly putting a 202 back in!

i must disagree as much as i like V8s i have a hotrod with a 302 windsor (not going), a HJ sandman with a 350 (not going), a HQ monaro with a 308(not going)and a LX SS hatchback with a 202 that gets neglected and just goes and goes and goes and a HT kingswood with a 186 that was at the back of my shed for 4 years untouched and all i did was put a battery in it (not even fresh fuel) and it fired up with no problems and i have been driving it for 2 months. We have just got back from a cruise and there was a very nice HJ sandman van there Absinth yellow with HJ stripes which looked fantastic but under the bonnet was a good ol 202 and he was having as much fun as anyone. I have a good 202 in the shed and i am very tempted to put it in my van and just have some fun!

It will come down to cost, as I would rather send money on the body getting it right and have something that looks good and cruises well .

I agree with you thatotherguy, can't see any issue's with running a six in a sandman, or anything for that matter. They are pretty much bullet proof, and you have just as much fun. I like V8's, had my first in 1975, but I have no need for them now.

    Cheers.
