I like the idea behind what is not a Sandman as a quick guide section. Similar to quick start instructions you get with digital items these days. Or I suppose it could be just an elimination chart which may be even easier. However I really think that a comprehensive guide should be included. Its all very well saying why something is not but even more importantly as to why it is. If you go the comprehensive way or not perhaps add is a HZ Sandman panel van XX7 if gvw after Jan 1977 is 2000kg (if that's correct, pretty sure). Alternatively is not.

An elimination chart sounds like a good idea.

HX and HZ Sandman are essentially Kingswoods hence they got all Kingswood stuff including the courtesy switches for the interior lights. There is no mention I have found about footwell illumination though. Parts catalogue makes no distinction for Sandman in this area either. Neither appear as an option code that I have yet found either, so they are possibly a dealer fitted accessory if not factory fitted as part of the base equipment.

    Jan '78 Dave. Don't forget that is only one of 4 x available HZ Sandman GVW's though: 1860kg, 1950kg, 2000kg and 2200kg.

If we can't come up with a "what is a sandman" or at least something that shows what could be with further investigations I don't see the point of a reference sheet telling people what is not a sandman. I did put the original one together from limited knowledge so I am biased, but I reckon it could work if tweaked a bit.

You can do it, but believe me it won't be a single sheet! There are too many crossovers into other vehicles in the same series to make any useable list without pages of qualifications, much of which needs photos. Plus you don't really want a widespread detailed document that tells those on the fringe how to fake a Sandman. There is some stuff I won't be publishing as these are little titbits that allow me to pick a real one from a good fake. I guarantee you there is little secrets like these kept close to the chest in GT Falcons, XU-1's, L34's etc.
I'll have a go and see if I can condense a list of how to identify one, but it will be a challenge to make it brief.
