Day after announcing right-hand-drive Corvette for Australia, GMH does a U-turn and says 'No way'

He told reporters at the Detroit motor show overnight: “I have no idea what [General Motors CEO Dan Akerson] said but we have no plan to put a right-hand-drive under that bonnet. The Corvette is a Chevrolet, it’s not a Holden, it never will be, next question.”

When Lee was asked how two senior executives with intimate knowledge of the company could make such a faux-pas, Lee said: “I recognise what my boss said, I recognise what [the chief engineer] said, I am telling you as the operating guy in charge there is no plan. I respect my boss, I love my boss. But I think he was giving you an exhortation.”

Not available anymore it seems. haha

I believe him, not sure why they'd go to the trouble Engineering a RHD Corvette when what would be a bigger seller in RHD, the Camaro, is already Engineered as RHD. They just have to make the tooling.

They are just scared we might realise its a worse car to drive than our old Monaro commodore thing was.

You obviously have never owned or driven one. They are just slightly better then a WB Ute on it's side!

Camaro maybe badged as a Monaro (with some Aussie style changes) would make most sense. Being a VE/VF undercarriage it's partly Aussie anyway and better looking overall.

GM Worldwide needs "world" cars to survive.

The Camaro was originally to be sold here as a Holden Camaro I remember reading, but whilst the car just survived the GFC it didn't survive in RHD. It was fully Engineered here in Australia for RHD though. I bet it drives better than the Corvette too. I read a magazine article comparing the Camaro with the Mustang, they couldn't believe how much better the Camaro was.

Believe me, a CV8 drives infintely better than a WB! The best way to describe how my CV8 feels to drive is "like a go-kart". You sit low to the ground, stiff suspension and no-profile tyres means lots of bumps are felt, you can steer with the throttle or the steering wheel and it is fun to drive. My only regret is they never fitted the 6L80E box to them, if they had there would be many less manuals sold than were!

Actually it appears that what I wrote says something other than what I meant. The corvette will not handle as well as a Monaro. As for a wb ute?? Where did that fit into the story FFS??
