I believe this particular car always had that style grille - "prototype" HZ grille maybe?
btw, this car has the nice-looking 'snowflake' style wheels that didn't make it to the production LEs :(

Those nice looking "snowflake" wheels are another item out of the GM international parts bin, standard on certain late 70's Trans Ams, as were the pig ugly "honeycomb"rims that the LE's came with.I believe this particular car always had that style grille - "prototype" HZ grille maybe?
