    It amazes me

It amazes me that some event organisers just don't know how to promote an event.

There are dozens of show and shines and swap meets, car runs etc happening nearly every weekend around this country and some organisers think putting up a one page website you will find it and turn up.

I know mySandman isn't a huge site, and we are very specific in our audience reach (we welcome all though) - but you would reckon event organisers would do a bit of a web search for car enthusiast websites and post information on their event... Isn't it the aim of these events to bring people in?

    Am I missing something?

Maybe they are just not "net" savvy? Wasted opportunity to not use web sites that will help promote an event though.

    Nope, you're not missing anything.

Just out of interest (and to see if anyone would see) I started putting a few events I could find over the next couple of months (from Pinky's website mainly) on our calendar just to see if it drew any comments.

You're right though, but feel that some admins (on other websites) might get all wobbly if someone showed-up unannounced spruiking their carshow/swapmeet/cruise. Harder to pick than a broken nose but I guess it might involve speaking directly with some of these clubs and organisers and letting them know we exist.
    Nunc est bibendum...

I saw your events you put up Taily!

Not all events will be advertised.....some shows have limited space for vehicles to park and prefer to keep it like that. Some events (like Hanging Rock) seem to grow from strength to strength with little to no advertizing. Shows like that spread from word of mouth and reputation alone.

Some shows advertize with big billboards and newspaper ads..as well as facebook pages......in particular the events that raise money for various charities

Everyone seems to have their own way of doing it!!

Its not just a car show, its for cars motorbikes trucks tractors and stationary engines.... Basically anything with a motor...

Im not amazed. the peeps that run these events are generally in the older demographic. computer skills and funds are lacking. valid point nonetheless. they need to cater for the younger generation if they want their event to carry momentum into the future

Movies of the day can play a big part in what people like......

We had "running on empty" to inspire us to hot up the Monaro or Falcon, and deck out the panelvan. "Mad Max" inspired lots of hot XA-XC coupes.

Today's gen has "The Fast and the furious" to inspire them to hot up their rice burners and race on the streets. Fortunately there is also "Gone in 60 seconds" to inspire some of the younger crowd to do up dads old Charger into a tough muscle car.........

As for event organizing, the www and social networking may be all powerful today but word of mouth has been around since the dawn of time and will continue to be all the advertisement needed a lot of the time when it comes to car shows and swap meets. There was no Internet when I was a younger fellow and I always knew where and when every car show and swap meet was on in my city.

Just the same as Absinth, I knew about every car..hot rod show and display in and around Sydney when I was younger. Word of mouth most of the time, my mate's and I never missed a show.
