HZ and WB do drive better than earlier ones, and given WB will probably never really be a highly sought after collectable I thought it was a good idea too. That car is a steal for this sort of conversion. It'd probably be worth $20k once finished, and I doubt the WB would ever pull that (in today's $ terms). It might in the future. PLus the ones everyone seems to want are 4spds and the auto car is a much easier one to convert.

It was a real subtle thing to pick but it made the front end look real good. He's since found a WB statesman front with a stamped set of WB Gts guards so now I've got the hybrid front ready to go on something else.

WB taillights are shockers too. There's no excuse for fitting them to earlier models.
WB gts guards? There are no WB gts parts - closest thing is a full instrumentation dash

There is a mob in NSW that can press GTS flutes into the guards

It also stopped pretty quickly when a Renault lost control and hit it head on. Goodbye WB Caprice nose, alloy bullbar and car as the rails bent. Still started and drove away from the centre of the road as it had electric fans, but it was buggered.

In some ways that would be a better one to convert to a Sandman replica: More $ return for front and strips. But in others it would be harder: have to replace blue trim, add T-bar, replace TH350. Plus it has obviously been rebuilt before and you never know what is under the paint. Probably a good car to drive and enjoy if the body is good. You'd never build it yourself for those $.
