Some would argue yes but not by much in my opinion. They were never a special engine anyway. If you were really keen you could hunt around for a 253 with the "right" engine number for that period.

Great find, well done and enjoy it.

Correct, except GV7 is just 3.55 (banjo or Salisbury). Because it is a V8 it automatically got a Salisbury.

The engine number you quoted, is that the engine currently in the car? I ask because that engine number looks 253 to me.

I agree playwme QR is 253, no hassles changing out eng I reckon. Takes a couple of hours and you can fix that. You'll find a lot of people prefer five lts anyway.

QR is 253. QT or 11QT is the usual prefix for 308.
Check the number on the engine. If its the same as the one you quoted I reckon that would be pretty close to the original 253. If its something else then make sure you run the number to ensure you don't have any issues when it comes to rego. When I bought my HZ and went to transfer the rego interstate the engine number showed up as being stolen 20 years ago. It all worked out but it took a day of hanging around the cop shop waiting for them to do enquiries and contacting the insurance company that had payed out on the stolen vehicle to see if they wanted the motor.

Edit- and VERY important. Check the number on the chassis and make sure it matches the one on the plates. That's what will hurt the value if it doesn't match.

Unless the van was built between both plants, when they transported them on trains to different plants etc. my HZ has different numbers and that's from factory

Do you mean that your chassis number doesn't match your ADR tag or that your body number on the trim tag doesn't match the VIN tag?
If it is the chassis number and ADR tag then your van has had a replacement chassis at some time, if it is the body number and the VIN not matching, then that is the norm. It is rarer to find a body number matching the VIN than not, if it is on a van or ute that has had an Adelaide built body assembled with a chassis at any other plant in Australia, then it is almost guaranteed to be non matching. I currently have 2 HQs, 3 HXs, and 2 HZs in my yard, and out of all of them only one has matching tags, VIN to body tag and chassis to ADR tag.

That car is my HQ Premier wagon, which according to records held by Byron also has its original engine number on the block, although there are some anomalies with the casting date. This car has only two spots of rust in the entire shell and they are in the doglegs between the rear wheel arches and the sills on both sides.
