    Either.

But it's Panel Van not Panel van.

The squashing and joining of words is a very Australian thing. Where we use everytime or bottletop the Yanks are "every time" and "bottle top" and there are a thousand other examples. (think of the words atleast, worldwide and fullscreen.) Computers typically default to (US) English and this is having a huge effect on the world. Even if we choose (UK) English we are still corrupted (just not as much).

Some software that is developed here in Australia (or New Zealand) allows for the selection of US English, UK English and Proper English where "proper" is current Australian or Kiwi, othertimes it is for British English. Whoops there is another one - othertimes.

All that said, I was taught "Lense" as a word at school when it should have been Lens.

Is it Sandman or Sand Man....
When a word pairing is popularised it becomes one word as a general rule.

    Why do you ask Blocker?

It's been too long since I was at school learning all the rules of grammar but, using the VW example, the Type 2 has three designations, Panel Van (no windows or seats), Microbus (seats and windows), Kombi Van (windows with removable seats). Therefore a Holden van is a Panel Van, maybe we should call a van with side windows a Kombi?
