Has Holden become un-Australian?

An article released in todays online news says that Holden are trying to place themselves back into the Australian culture because they fear the perception is they have become un-Australian.

Have a read of the article and tell us what you think... although I can't imagine why they would want to sponsor Collingwood football club!!!

I would rather see Holden supporting the arts,various sciences and academic avenues rather than ball sports. It would be nice to think theyre supporting future growth of this country rather than lining their own pockets with an easy audience grab. People aren't stupid, word spreads pretty quick where the parts come from... ie- overseas....thus not really being an Aussie built car anymore. I find this all rather sad in all honesty.

You sponsor the event, not segregate to a single club - not that many up this way care about AFL.
The NRL State and Country sponsorship makes more sense. Branding the whole major events.

But when it's all said and done, Commodore, Cruze, Captiva, Colarado, Volt = pass.

What I find difficult to fathom is the amount of government support they continue to recieve and yet they expect the taxpayer to conveniently forget this when they announce such sponsorship deals. One might argue that the government is the one in fact doing the sponsoring of these events, it is just that Holden is the one who benefits out of it.

Funny how it was ultimately the managements responsibility for sales slumps as they have tried too hard to be a "Euro clone" when in fact the public just wanted Holden to be what it always has been - Australian, instead of distancing itself from the market it now actively pursues again (and ironically blames for heading towards front wheel drive large car packages).

I'll buy my (probably last) Holden if it is any good in the next 12-18 months or so if I can. I've never bought a new Holden yet but do want to buy something new at the upper end of the RWD HSV 6.2lt stable before the brand fades away into obscurity when they go FWD on their bread and butter cars, which I dare say will possibly signal the end for them and would be a boon for the likes of BMW, Merc/AMG etc who will retain a rear wheel drive derivative.

I just want to own one brand new RWD with a bit of go in it before they become an all european proposition soon.

Holden have sponsored Netball tests series for many years. It is the highest participation sport in Australia for women and up there in the top 2 or 3 overall. Probably a smart move as women often hold the purse strings!

But that doesn't help unless they build cars people want!

I would not say the company has become un australian, never really thought about it before. As for sponsorship, event's and team's need sponsor's to survive. It has never made me go out and buy a sponsor's product though.
